Children's Sleeping Bags

When considering the purchase of children’s sleeping bags, a number of considerations are required. Firstly, you need to purchase a sleeping bag that is appropriate for the conditions under which it will be used. In other words, if the child is going camping in cold conditions, then obviously a warmer sleeping bag is required. On the other hand, if the weather conditions are expected to be warm, then you don’t want your child to overheat. The decisions that need to be made when buying children’s sleeping bags are essentially the same as if you are buying a sleeping bag for an adult. The only real difference is that the child requires a smaller version of an adult bag.

 It is probably not the best idea to have your child sleep in an adult-sized sleeping bag because of the extra space that is required to keep warm. Modular sleeping bags with zip extensions which allow the bag to grow with the child are available, and are a great alternative to buying a new bag every couple of years to keep up with a rapidly growing child. 

Of course, children’s sleeping bags that are required only for indoor use are not going to require the stringent warming capabilities which are needed for outdoor use. Sleeping bags for indoor use are sometimes called slumber bags, and children’s sleeping bags often are attractively decorated to add to their appeal, and will create a sense of fun and excitement during a sleepover. 

The sensitive skin of young children has been known to sometimes react to sleeping bag materials, and this may be a factor which you will need to consider if your child suffers from any such allergies.
